Artist Statement
What voices inside yourself have you silenced so that you are not vulnerable? Stifled, so that you do not have to confront difficult parts of you?
My current work began as an effort to allow those voices within me to surface and to speak. The choices I make when crafting and interpreting the work and its stories are driven by questions—some seemingly simple, some complex—meant to explore parts of myself with which I lost touch. What do I like? What do I need to feel whole? What do I carry, beneficial or burdensome, that I am not aware of? What awakens me?
In a time full of distraction, one in which it is ever easier to lose touch with our selves, I find this type of exploration necessary. Time spent creating and simply sitting with the images and videos can be revelatory. I encourage you, the viewer, to spend time with them. What they reveal in you is what they are, for now.
